.Bertie Blackman
I've been music blog surfing and as a result, Sia's Single is about to be joined by a number of her countrymen and women. Who The Bloody Hell Are They? is a wicked good music site (re)introducing the masses to Aussie singers and songstresses. I've barely scratched the site's surface and already I like what I'm hearing. Here are a few of what I call 'gems':
The lady pic'd above, Miss Bertie Blackman and her song, "Heart". It contains an addictive electronic bass line warmed by her vocals, clapping and something I can only describe as doo-wop. The effect is not as mishmash as it reads; it's quite delightful! Plus, as the song winds toward its conclusion Bertie breaks its cresendo's tension acapello style!!! Every time I get to that part I start beating the air like a drum (or a madwoman, you decide), shaking my head while mouthing the lyrics. I can't help myself. You know, the first time I heard "Heart" I wasn't entirely sure I liked it; the next day I found myself listening obsessively to the song. Go figure.
Next is a band named An Horse. Do you know how difficult to find a jpeg for a band called An Horse? Very. At least more difficult than my lazy-ass has patience for, so no pic for these guys but the song, "Little Lungs" is tight. Apparently their music is all over the Aussie TV Machine. Good on 'em.
.Snob Scrilla
And who's this handsome fella, huh? He's a happy fella, isn't he? Well, that's Snob Scrilla. Snob Who? Snob Scrilla. He's a HipHop artist and his song, "Houston", is loud and social with a capital 'S'. In this particular song he lays his rap over a rock riffs and rage and it is most effective. Enjoy!
The Australians, they have invaded!
