I really like violins. I love the way their music charges hard or sings softly at the edges depending on the composition. In my more aspirational moments I see myself pursuing lessons in the instrument -- they are by far my favorite! And pianos! Can't forget about them! Time has deepened my affection for those oft-tickled ivory keys; encouraged an appreciation for the cello; and cultivated a dislike for the flute and most other woodwind instruments. What has any of this to do with the price of eggs? Well, a site -- De Wolfe Music (a U.K. based production music company) -- I came across got me thinking about classical music and the sounds I most like.
While you can't download any music from the site unless you are a client or a media professional, you can listen to every song in full to your heart's content, so I say explore! It's a lot of fun and I've come across some great stuff, like -- Paul Howard Morris's Affirmation, as well as his Resolute String Ensemble in the stylings of Michael Nyman (whom I love); and an Elegant String Ensemble with Piano by Laurent Dury.
For classical music in general, on the download and on the cheap, might I suggest Classical.com? Some of my favorite pieces by Michael Nyman, were found there.
